This FAQ has been discontinued due to the large amounts of email I have
recieved on topics clearly stated in the FAQ.
*RATING*
Graphics 9/10 Good, but polygons pop up all over the place. Trees and shrubs
are one dimensional.
Sound 8/10 Nice sound effects, but many of the voices could be better. Music
gets old.
Control 8/10 Kind of tough at first, but once you get used to it you'll be on
the road to victory.
Fun Factor 9/10 A very cool and challenging game. It's more than just another
racing game, it's an adventure.
*VEHICLES!*
Car: The basic getter-arounder. High speed racing is in store for the car.
Just stay on the course. The terrain will slow it down. You can fix this with
the 4WD code (under Cheats later in the FAQ). It's power slide (hold R as you
turn) will come in handy.
Hovercraft: Tough to control (especially for lightweights). But it is faster
than the Car and the terrain has no effect on it cuz you never touch the
ground. This baby even goes over water and lava! It has the sharpest turning
radius of the three vehicles and can make short hops by pressing R. Holding R
will allow it to make a sharp turn.
Plane: The ultimate in 3D racing! You can go anywhere with this vehicle. But
because of this, missiles are hard to connect with and traps are easier to
dodge. But if you get hit in a plane, it will really screw you up. The R
button lets you turn faster or perform barrel rolls to snag out-of-the-way
items.
*THE ITEMS!*
Bananas: High in Vitamin B and Potassium. But never mind that, cuz your speed
increases when you collect these.
Zippers: Run over/through these to get a speed boost. Let off the gas just
before you hit it to get a better boost.
Silver Coins: Collect these in the Silver Coin Challenge.
Gold Balloons: You earn these for winning a race or a Silver Coin Challenge.
Platinum Balloons: You earn these for the same reason as Gold Balloons, but
they only appear in Adventure Two.
Wizpig Amulet: Win a valuable piece of this amulet from each boss, then race
Wizpig when you complete it.
T.T. Amulet: Win a piece for finding the key in each area and beating the
Challenge level. But what does it do??? (answered later in the FAQ)
Trophies: Win these for completing the Trophy Race. Only the Gold trophy has a
significance, but what is it???? (ditto)
Missiles! Blast your foes out of the way
(Collect 1 Red Balloon) Missile: Single shot missile. A character loses 2
Bananas when hit with a missile.
(Collect 2) Homing Missile: Lock on to a person in front of you and fire.
You're almost guaranteed a hit.
(Collect 3) 10 Missiles: Fire 10 regular Missiles! Collect another Red Balloon
to refill them to 10.
Boosts! Use these to speed past your opponents.
(Collect 1 Blue Balloon) Boost: A weak boost. Collect a power up.
(Collect 2) Medium Boost: A more powerful boost. Use these to get ahead of the
pack, but watch out for
Missiles!
(Collect 3) Mega Boost: The best boost.
Droppers! Plant these on Zippers and around corners.
(Collect 1 Green Balloon) Oil Slick/Smoke Screen: Use to spin out a foe.
(Collect 2) Spiked Mine: Bursts when touched and whoever hits it loses 2
Bananas.
(Collect 3) Bubble: Character floats up in the air for about 3 seconds.
Shields!
(Collect 1 Purple Balloon) Shield. Lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds and
protects you from missiles, droppers and other hazards. It is also possible
to spin out opponents by ramming them.
(Collect 2) Better Shield. Lasts for about 10 seconds.
(Collect 3) Best Shield. Lasts for about 15 seconds.
Magnets!
(Collect 1 Rainbow Balloon) Yellow Magnet. Pull yourself up to a foe from a
short distance.
(Collect 2) Same as Yellow Magnet, only more range.
(Collect 3) Drag the opponent in front of you backwards.
*THE CHARACTERS!*
LIGHTWEIGHTS:
Pipsy Vehicle Color: Pink Acceleration: Great Handling: Great Top Speed:
Medium Cornering: Great
Select Phrase: "I'm Pipsy" Deselect Phrase: "Uh oh!"
Pipsy is one of the best. She is good in every category, but speed is rather
lacking. Nothin a little Potassium can't fix, though.
Tiptup Vehicle Color: Light Blue Acceleration: Great Handling: Great Top
Speed: Medium Cornering: Great!
Select Phrase: "Hey it's Tiptup!" Deselect Phrase: "Bwaaa!"
Tiptup is a little faster than Pipsy, but his cornering ablility is slightly
lower.
MIDDLEWEIGHTS:
Bumper Vehicle Color: Yellow Acceleration: Medium Handling: Medium Top
Speed: Medium Cornering: Good
Select Phrase: "The name's Bumpa" Deselect Phrase: "Ooph!"
Bumper is a good choice. He is average in every category and he lives for
speed. He is a fierce competitor.
Diddy Vehicle Color: Dark Blue Acceleration: Medium Handling: Medium Top
Speed: Medium Cornering: Good
Select Phrase: "I'm Diddy! *Monkey noise*" Deselect Phrase: "Whoa!"
Diddy is an all around good character. He is #1 when controlled by a computer
opponent.
Timber Vehicle Color: Dark Green Acceleration: Medium Handling: Medium Top
Speed: Medium Cornering: Good
Select Phrase: "Timber!" Deselect Phrase: "Rharrr!"
Out of all the voices, his is definetly the most fitting. He's also a pretty
damn good racer.
Conker Vehicle Color: White Acceleration: Medium Handling: Medium Top
Speed: Medium Cornering: Good
Select Phrase: "I'm Conker!" Deselect Phrase: "Eeek!"
Yet another good racer. Hanging out with Diddy before he gets his own game.
HEAVYWEIGHTS:
Banjo Vehicle Color: Light Green Acceleration: Slow Handling: Good Top
Speed: Fast Cornering: Poor
Select Phrase: "I'm Banjo!" Deselect Phrase: "Whooooaa!"
He is slow to get up to speed, but he won't let up once he does. A good choice
for hovercraft or plane levels. His size is his main disadvantage.
Krunch Vehicle Color: Orange Acceleration: Slow Handling: Difficult Top
Speed: Very Fast Cornering: Poor
Select Phrase: "My name's Krunch!" Delect Phrase: "Blah."
His steering is very difficult and he is tough to get started, but his Top
Speed is very high. A good choice for Hover or Plane levels also. His big size
makes him an easy target for cheap attacks.
SECRET CHARACTERS:
Drumstick Vehicle Color: Red Acceleration: Fast Handling: Difficult Top
Speed: Fast Cornering: Poor
Select Phrase: "I'm Drumstiiiick!" Deselect Phrase: "Bwaah!!!"
He is a good racer except that he is difficult to control. But get it down and
he is a great racer.
T.T. Vehicle Color: Shiny Silver Acceleration: Medium Handling: Good Top
Speed: Fast Cornering: Good
Select Phrase: *Echo effect* "I'm T.T." Deselect Phrase: *Echo* "Wow!"
T.T. He is high in every category, making him the best racer in the game. He
is best for beginners, but you need to be a master to enable him.
*LEVEL LOCATIONS*
Dino Domain- Drive straight ahead from the starting point.
Snowball Valley- Through a tunnel to the right of Dino Domain.
Sherbet Island- From Snowball valley, follow the path to left, down the
waterfall. It's on a small island.
Dragon Forest- Under a waterfall left of the starting point (where you appear
when the game begins).
Future Fun Land- See the Cheats section below.
*GAME STRATEGY*
Here's a basic breakdown of what you do in each area.
Win races- Race boss- Silver Coin Challenge- Race boss again (get 1/4 of the
Wizpig Amulet)- Challenge Level (find Key)- Trophy Race.
Win races- All you have to do is come in first.
Race boss- Now that you have finished his stages, go challenge the boss to a
race.
Silver Coin Challenge- The boss gives you a new challenge- find 8 Silver Coins
and finish in first in each stage. The doors now take more Gold Balloons to
enter.
Race boss again- Now that you have done that, race the boss again. Now he has
more tricks up his sleeve. Win and he'll give up his chunk of the Wizpig
Amulet.
Challenge Level- A challenging little stage with 1/4 of the T.T. Amulet as the
prize. Find the key hidden in one of the courses to enter.
Trophy Race- This is the part that is similar to Mario Kart. Race on all the
tracks and come up with the most points to win.
Position Points Earned
1st place 9
2nd place 7
3rd place 5
4th place 3
5th place 1
6th, 7th, 8th 0
*HINTS*
Taj will change your vehicle anytime you like. Just get his attention (run
into him or honk at him) and tell him to change your vehicle. You can do this
as many times as you want.
Most of the time the Silver Coins aren't on the beaten path. Usually they are
in awkward positions or are tough to find. If you can't find one or two of the
coins, drive around the course and look carefully for them. You have unlimited
tries to win, so try again as many times as needed.
Because Rainbow Balloons are so hard to find, they're not really all that
useful.
The lightweights (Pipsy and Tiptup) work best in Cars. The middleweights
(Diddy, Timber, Conker and Bumper) fare well in all vehicles. The
heavyweights (Banjo and Krunch) are better in Hovercraft levels.
After you finish a stage on the Silver Coin Challenge, you can race any of the
three vehicles in that stage (in some stages this isn't the case, only two are
selectable. Even in some, only one is selectable).
Taj will occasionally challenge you to a race to see how you are doing. If you
are victorious, you will earn Gold Balloons. If you lose, you can challenge
him again at any time.
Let off the gas before a speed boost or hitting a Zipper. You will get
slightly more power out of it.
The Wizpig Amulet will color in a part of the rock that resembles Wizpig in
the central area. Once it is completely colored in, the mouth will be a tunnel
that leads to the first race with Wizpig.
The T.T. Amulet has the power to open the T.T. door found in Space Land. You
will also need to have all 47 balloons to open it.
Every time you beat Wizpig the first time and it shows the credits, it will
display a random cheat. If you're getting sick of racing him, look in the
CHEAT section below for a complete list of cheats.
Future Fun Land is pretty lame. No boss (besides Wizpig) and no challenge
stage. Basically all you do is race, get silver coins, Trophy Race, and beat
Wizpig.
There are seven Gold/Platinum Balloons not found in any course or race.
1. Outside the door leading to Dino Domain. Get this one first.
2. On the ledge to the left of the big Wizpig head. You need the plane to get
it. (This isn't a problem with Taj around)
3 and 4. Switch to a Hovercraft and take the path under the waterfall to the
snowy area. Drive through the opposite waterfall and you will be at a river.
Search carefully along the shores for two balloons.
5, 6 and 7. Accept Taj's challenge and race him in each vehicle. For each
victory, you will gain a Balloon.
*KEY LOCATIONS*
You don't have to win the race to get the key. You can even leave the race
after you get it. Once you grab it, it's yours forever.
Dino Domain: This key is in Ancient Lake. Drive off the road on the right side
and toward the rock formation. Drive through the first one and go up the ramp
with the Rare symbol on it. The key is on the ramp. This one is by far the
easiest to find.
Snowball Valley: It's in Snowflake Mountain. Look for a small passage in the
rock left of the start and go through it. Follow the path to find the key.
Sherbet Island: In Crescent Island, go towards the left path (the one with the
Zipper and the Rainbow Balloon). But instead of turning, go straight into the
water. A hovercraft is reccomended for this part (you must finish the Silver
Coin race first). Zoom along until you come to a little hill. Look on the
left side of the hill to find a hollowed out section with the key.
Dragon Forest: In Boulder Canyon, grab three Blue Balloons to get a super
boost. Cross the bridge, turn around so you face the bridge and hit the bell.
Super boost up the bridge to snag the key. You only have a few seconds before
the bridge goes back down. If you make a mistake, go down, collect 3 more Blue
Balloons, hit the bell and jet up again. This will probably take a few tries.
*CHEATS*
To get a boost off the starting line: Hold down A just as the "GET READY"
fades from the screen. A blue boost is the best. You go from 0 to 60 in no
time flat. A red boost is a boost but not a very good one. It will, however,
take you from 0 to 30 in no time flat.
To make an extremely sharp turn, hold A, B and R and the direction you want to
turn when in a car. You will prop the car up on two wheels. This is mandatory
for the heavyweights. In hovercrafts, you need only to hold R. To do a barrel
roll or loop in the plane, hold the Control Stick in the direction you want to
barrel roll and tap R twice. To loop backwards and snag goodies, tap R twice
with the Control Stick in the Up or Down position, depending on the way you
want to loop.
To play as Drumstick: Win all four of the Trophy Races and beat Wizpig for the
first time (though I'm not positive on the Wizpig part). Then look at the
frogs hopping around the lake in the central area (where Taj is). Hit the one
with red feathers and the spell on Drumstick will be broken and he'll gladly
join the rebellion.
To find the Secret area, Future Fun Land: Collect all four Gold Trophies and
defeat Wizpig the first time. Go to the sign where your trophies are displayed
(down by the Light House). Drive up to it and it transforms into a rocket and
jets off. Drive on the launch pad and you will go to the secret course, with
four new tracks and everything, all except for a missing boss. This is where
the T.T. Amulet is needed, to race Wizpig for the second time. Of course, you
will need to defeat Wizpig the first time before you can find Future Fun Land.
To beat Wizpig the first time: Run through the course a few times so you get
used to the terrain and know where all the Zippers are. You must get a boost
at the starting line, drive through the course and not fall in the water and
hit every Zipper. Miss more than one and you can't win. This is VERY
difficult.
How to beat Wizpig the second time! Thanks to Don Harloh
(don@donh.vip.best.com): Avoid the lasers and the asteroids by flying high.
Touch a couple of red balloons, then go under the Wizpig head. When
you get to a purple balloon, touch it, avoiding the obstacle. When you get to
the Throne Room, use the shield so that the missiles don't affect you. Use
this strategy for all 3 laps.
Ed the Moogle adds: There is a certain path through the stage that is rather
clear from obstacles. Fly low and avoid the low arches and flying meteors at
the beginning. When you reach the Wizpig head, fly under it and snag the
missile to shoot Wizpig and slow him down for a second. In the catacombs,
avoid the obstacles in the cave and snag the Purple Balloon. Use it
immediately to get through the throne room without being hit. If you miss it,
just fly low. Then just jet ahead to the finish line. Repeat as nessesary.
Pool Contaminator adds: If you make a mistake on the last lap, you've lost,
unless Wizpig is really far behind and it was a very small mistake.
Pool Contaminator also adds: He's VERY tough. The only way I beat him was to
use the TEENYWEENIES code and use T.T.. No other racer is good enough and T.T.
is too big normally.
Adventure 2- To gain access to Adventure 2, beat Wizpig the second time. All
the tracks are reversed and you collect Platinum Balloons in this mode. This
is good for a new challenge. You must choose an EMPTY slot to begin a game in
Adventure 2.
Pool Contaminator adds: This mode is boring.
To open the T.T. door, you will need all the pieces of both Amulets and all 47
balloons. Then you can race Wizpig the second time.
*COMPLETE LIST OF MAGIC CODES!*
Put in these codes at the Magic Codes screen. Many of these codes will only
work in Tracks mode.
I put stars by the ones that work in Adventure Mode (many of which are
useless). Defeating Wizpig for the first time will reveal one of these at
random.
*BLABBERMOUTH- Horns change to character noises.
BOMBSAWAY- All red balloons
ROCKETFUEL- All blue balloons
TOXICOFFENDER- All green balloons
BODYARMOR- All purple balloons
OPPOSITESATTRACT- All rainbow balloons
ZAPTHEZIPPERS- All zippers vanish
FREEFRUIT- Start with 10 bananas
NOYELLOWSTUFF- Bananas are gone in multiplayer mode.
BYEBYEBALLOONS- Computer can't use weapons.
*JOINTVENTURE- Two player Adventure. Only one person has to finish, so the
other can lag behind and blast opponents.
BOGUSBANANAS- Bananas decrease speed.
*VITAMINB- Can collect more than 10 Bananas.
*TIMETOLOSE- Computer AI is VERY good. They run laps perfectly and their shots
are almost always right on target.
FREEFORALL- Whenever you collect an item, it is automatically powered up to
Level 3. VERY crazy.
OFFROAD- 4WD. Terrain won't slow down the car.
*JUKEBOX- Sound test is added to AUDIO OPTIONS.
DOUBLEVISION- Two people can play as the same racer. This puts an end to all
the arguing and coin tossing!
*ARNOLD- All racers are nearly twice as big as usual.
*TEENYWEENIES- All racers are about 1/2 their normal size.
WHODIDTHIS- View credits. It will not reveal a new cheat. (Don't need one,
they're all right here!)
Please note that the following Magic Codes only work on the Japanese version.
Thanks to conker_98@hotmail.com for these.
NEEDSLEEP- Slow motion racing.
NYTROGYN- Different fuel for car and plane. (No clue what it does)
SPEEDTICKET- Fast motion racing. (Look out Extreme-G! DKR is right behind
you!)
CHARACTERMAX- All characters enabled.
If you have any more email me, however I doubt there are any more.
*GAMESHARK CODES!*
Many thanks to B00664 for these. You need the Keycode option for these to
work.
I spaced these out to the best of my abilities. However, if you have any more
or could space out this section better yourself, prove it! Send it to my addy
at the bottom of the FAQ.

Fossil Canyon:
Use both zippers to get over the lake.
Hot Top Volcano:
At the part where you see a balloon path and a wall path, take the route to
the right. It's a bit shorter.
Snowflake Mountain
--------------------------------
Snowball Valley:
Take the route to the left just after the starting line.
Sherbet Island
----------------------
Whale Bay:
Use the whale to get on the pirate ship.
Crescent Island:
Go through the hole in the galleon. It saves time.
Dragon Forest
----------------------
Greenwood Village:
Go through the well in the first village area. The tunnel after the forest
has a branch area that looks shorter, although it ain't shorter, but it
contains a Silver Coin.
Play as T.T.!
Play as T.T.- You must meet and beat T.T. on every track in Time Trial mode.
Here are the times you will have to beat. Thanks go to Alex Story III
(oldpal@capital.net) for these. This is not easy. You will need a lot of skill
just to be able to race him. I sugguest using a middleweight character like
Conker. Hit every zipper with the "Boost" trick and do not make a mistake.
